DAKAR, Senegal, February 13, 2006-- Cellicium, the premier provider of USSD Browsing solutions, today announced that Sonatel affiliate, Sonatel Mobiles - Senegal's mobile telecommunications services provider- commercially known as Alizé, has successfully created a new mobile device management (MDM) application using Cellicium's USSD Service Creation Environment. The USSD-powered service triggering a third party application, which provides Alizé users with personalized WAP GSM and GPRS settings, was independently developed by Sonatel with the technical support of Cellicium. Sonatel completed the project within the time of one work day.
"Our goal was to streamline requests for personalized settings, while improving the overall user experience; USSD and Cellicium proved to be the ideal solution, "stated Mr. Gning - VAS Platforms Manager within Sonatel's Direction of Networks. "Thanks to the openness and flexibility of their platform architecture and the quality of their technical support, the service was developed and deployed within a short period of time."
Alizé post-paid subscribers can activate the application by dialing #120#. Seconds later a high-speed, user-friendly menu guides users through a series of menus, which lists handsets by brand and model. In the rare case that a handset is not displayed, the application also supports manual entries. At the end of the three-step service, the user receives an SMS message that automatically configures the handset for WAP GSM or GPRS capabilities. The entire application requires no more than a minute of the user's time and drastically minimizes the risk of manual entry errors, which commonly occur with similar services.
"Mobile device management can burden operators' customer-care cost and prevent consumption of value-added services," commented Sébastien Desquilbet , CEO and president of Cellicium . "Sonatel's innovative use of USSD to assist end users with mobile device management is a perfect example of how operators can benefit from the flexibility of Cellicium's tools to quickly develop cost-effective, customer-friendly solutions."
